I did it, I finally did it! With the help of my husband, I successfully completed my first official week of quarantine with three young children, one of which is now being home-schooled. As much as I would like to paint this picture of beautiful rainbows and butterflies, things were a bit challenging, but we figured out a groove and mustered through it.
A week ago on Friday, March 13th, my company made the very important decision to go take proactive measures in preventing a COVID-19. Upon receiving the news, I gathered my necessary work equipment – laptop, cords, files, chargers, and who could forget such essentials like my Kygo Life E7/1000 and my Comply™ TrueGrip™ Pro tips – I knew mama needed to block out the inevitable distractions of pans banging, Lego’s crashing, and the sounds of a heard of elephants trafficking the stairway!
In an effort to make working from home successful, I began taking note of other’s success.
Every great relationship starts with communication, and this does not stop just at home – this also includes keeping in contact with coworkers! I am very fortunate to have a close-knit group of people I work with. Thankfully, this is not a problem for us as we are in continual contact via phone, texting, email, Microsoft Teams, and my favorite, video-chatting during meetings. We really take communicating to the next level.
Second, CREATE YOUR OWN WORKSPACE
As easy as it is to setup shop in the kitchen, it’s essential to have that defined space to get your work done. I’ve setup shop in a quiet room in our lower level with my laptop and extra monitor. This is also where my Kygo Life earbuds come into play. I put those in and all I hear is the sweet melodies of Damien Rice as I plug away at my latest Amazon marketing strategies. My Comply™ TrueGrip Pro tips really come in handy for that extra noise isolation and help block out those distractions that might otherwise intervene with productivity. Plus, the added comfort lets me keep my ear buds in for hours at a time.
Third, TAKE BREAKS
While working at the office, I got into a schedule and routine from the moment I got up until I went to bed. Of course, being with coworkers, little breaks here and there came often and allowed some moments for jokes and laughter. I’ve had to learn a different routine while working from home – you still need to free and adjust the mind! I took time every couple of hours to play with the babies, check in on reading and math activities, and even playing a couple of games of Uno. Working from home doesn’t have to be strictly work – it’s also a great time to take advantage of extra moments that wouldn’t otherwise exist.
It’s easy to fall into the sedentary lifestyle of sitting behind a desk…and now with being at home, there’s even less movement involved. Again, making an effort to get up and move, pump out a quick walk with my Kygo Life E7/1000 with Comply™ TrueGrip™ Pro was also a nice way to also add in an extra break, and my Comply tips help my buds stay in. Let’s be honest, we are all really looking for a reason to not work, and this is one of those reason to do just that.
This week has been challenging but has also taught me a lot about my patience, time management, and given me a reason to be thankful. Not everyone is as fortunate to still be working – many have been laid off and do not know when they’ll see their next paycheck. I’m also thankful my children, as loud and crazy as they are, are healthy and safe. No one can really ask for more.
Until next week, we shall see what new adventures are in store!
